Namida Lab has commercialized Auria, described as the first at-home breast cancer screening test powered by tears for women over the age of 30.

Namida Lab was formed in 2019 by CEO Omid Moghadam. Moghadam said that Namida Lab’s name has a double meaning. Namida is derived from the Japanese word for tears. Namida is also the name of a bridge in Tokyo where families would say goodbye to loved ones condemned to execution. “For us, that’s a metaphor for cancer,” said Moghadam. “We’re trying to end the tears that are shed over cancer and the loss of loved ones.”

Namida Lab launched Auria, its first product, in 2022. The $159 biological breast cancer screening test can be prescribed and ordered online through the Namida Lab website, Amazon and Walmart.

Moghadam said that only 50% of women screen for breast cancer. He hopes that Auria’s affordability and accessibility will increase this number, detecting breast cancer much earlier and decreasing its mortality rate.
