2007 // Category I (1-25 Employees)

Mitchell Communications Group brings large corporations and their coveted audiences together in a way that’s unlike a typical full-service public relations and communications firm. Its founder, Elise Mitchell, says doing things a little differently has helped earn the firm repeat business from several large corporations and often a seat at the table with top-level executives making key decisions.

It has also grown the company’s revenue by an average of 48 percent a year since 2001. “In everything we do, we focus on generating impressive return on investment against a company’s business strategy or their overall corporate reputation,” said Mitchell, president and CEO. “Because of this focus, we find as our relationship with a client grows over the years, the opportunity to impact their business does as well.”

Mitchell Communications invests in bringing in top-level talent by offering a generous benefits package and operating a “flex-space, flex-time” working environment. An investment in top-tier technology also allows the firm flexible schedules with its 10 full-time employees based in Fayetteville and six part-time professionals scattered across the country. “As a result, we have senior-level professionals leading all accounts,” Mitchell said.

The firm also often partners with big national agencies to better serve shared clients, and in turn often picks up subcontracted PR work from other firms’ larger clients. That approach has earned Mitchell Communications several major clients, which make up the bulk of the firm’s business, including contracts with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Wal-Mart Foundation of Bentonville, Tyson Foods Inc. of Springdale, J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell, Southwestern Energy Co. of Houston and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville.

Mitchell said the firm, which is largely composed of women, earned a highly coveted certification through the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council in 2007.
