Flake & Kelley Makes Its Mark as the Largest Office Manager in Arkansas

The property management business began as a sidelight venture in 1979 for the Little Rock commercial real estate firm of Flake Tabor Tucker Wells & Kelley Inc.

Today, Flake & Kelley Management Inc. is recognized as the largest office management company in Arkansas. The success of the property management operations led to the venture becoming a stand-alone entity in 1993.

In 1984, the company was generating sales of $150,000 with three accounts and a staff of three. Operations have topped $3 million with 40 accounts and 55 employees.

The management firm is owned in a 50-50 partnership between John Flake and Hank Kelley Jr. Corporate clientele includes Procter & Gamble Corp., Acxiom Corp. and Arksys Inc.

The company has made its biggest mark in central Arkansas and is developing a presence in northwest Arkansas. Outside the state, the company’s roster includes projects in the Southwest and California.

“We’ve made progress in our mission to provide quality commercial real estate services to our clients,” says Kelley, the company president. “We continue to explore working in other cities in the state more and continue to grow in other states.”

Flake & Kelley Management is among the top five Arkansas managers of retail properties. Consulting work is an area of growth founded on an ever-broadening database the company has built over the years.

“We’re focused on new business generation and new tenants more than ever before,” Kelley says. “Whereas 10 years ago, debt restructuring was a big portion of business for customers.”

Surviving the turbulent 1980s is as much a testimony to the company’s management skills as anything. Flake & Kelley is focusing its in-state expansion efforts in northeast Arkansas.
