Hot Springs Maintenance Company Is a Family Business

Perry Taylor, president and chief executive officer of P.E.T. Enterprises at Hot Springs, says he never expected his company to reach its current size.

But now that it has, he hopes he can make the right decisions since members of his family and others are dependent on him.

P.E.T. Enterprises’ 60 employees specialize in cleaning carpets and windows, painting and lawn care for industrial, institutional and commercial clients at more than 500 locations in eight states.

Taylor said company revenue had grown 30 percent a year on average.

“I cleaned floors while I was in high school,” Taylor said. “Then for 20 years, I was in professional sales and management. My wife started cleaning houses to help put the children through school. She asked me if I would put her services on my business cards. And then we started getting calls from people asking if we did stripping and waxing of floors.

“I talked to my son, my son-in-law and my father-in-law. After we discussed it, we bought some equipment and went to work.”

P.E.T. remains a family business. Taylor’s wife, Paula, is secretary and chief financial officer; his daughter, Stephanie Moore, is treasurer; and his son-in-law, Rick Moore, is vice president of operations. Taylor’s son, Jason, was a vice president, but he now heads United Sanitary Supply, a separate division started in October.

The growth of P.E.T. picked up speed after its inception in 1990. The company started in janitorial work in 1994 and expanded into Texas the next year. It added carpet cleaning in 1998 and moved into supply sales in 1999.

Taylor sees continued growth through both sales and acquisitions and the formation of industrial alliances with vendors and customers.

“Service to the customer no matter what” is the key to the success of the company, Taylor said. “Then worry about the money. I believe in communication with customers and solving their problems. No excuses,” he said.

“The company has allowed me to bring my family together. We’ve bonded and become very close. I’m proud of what we’ve done,” Taylor said.
