FoxCor Inc. of Little Rock has averaged an astounding 116 percent growth in revenue since its meager beginning in October 1995.

Sales hit $9.3 million in 2001, and the FoxCor team now tallies 47.

The consulting firm was founded by John Fox and Mike Carringer after they retired from Hensel Phelps Construction Co. Their plan was to pursue business with the growing number of companies that were pruning their project management staffs in favor of outsourcing.

“Our mission is to represent owners in their capital improvements projects,” said Scott McLain, FoxCor president.

That entails a company staff of architects, estimators and engineers watching over an owner’s construction budget to ensure the biggest bang for the buck.

For example, FoxCor negotiated an $82 million final contract for a Harrah’s casino project in Atlantic City, N.J. The deal represented a savings of 16 percent for the owner.

FoxCor’s breakthrough project was the Harrah’s New Orleans Casino, which was in the throes of bankruptcy when FoxCor came aboard.

Some doubted that the troubled project could be pulled from the financial mire, but the FoxCor team led a successful effort in 1998 to get the vacant casino completed for $200 million.

“In both situations, we were able to save them a significant amount of money,” McLain said.

The project provided a dynamic calling card and opened doors for the firm.

Jobs range all the way up to the $800 million Diplomat Resort & Country Club in Hollywood, Fla. That 3 million-SF, 1,000-room facility, touted as the largest destination resort on the East Coast, was two years behind schedule when FoxCor came aboard and got things ironed out.

Hotels, casinos and resorts remain the firm’s primary market, though the company’s portfolio also includes office buildings, schools, government construction and industrial work.
