In 1991, the late Donald Rogers and his sons — Bob, John, Mike and David — decided they wanted to work for themselves, not paint for someone else.

With a $10,000 loan from Central Bank & Trust, now part of Arvest Bank, they founded Rogers Paint Co. Inc. Originally based in Cabot, the family-owned business later moved to Lonoke and does commercial, light industrial and residential painting across Arkansas.

“The main reason we started our own business … we just kept getting promises and stuff that the people we were working for didn’t keep,” said Bob Rogers, president of the business. “Our first couple of years were tough, but we stuck it out and we’ve grown every year since. In fact, last year was our best year ever.”

Gross sales for Rogers Paint Co. totaled about $1.2 million in 2014, Rogers said, adding that that figure was $1.6 million in 2015.

Hard work, dedication, paying attention to detail and always remembering that the customer is top priority are the keys to the company’s success, Rogers said. “Taking care of the customers and making sure our promises our kept — we don’t want anybody upset with us and we answer our phones. A lot of contractors, if they are not where they are supposed to be, don’t answer their phones.”

Rogers Paint Co. employs seven full-time workers and hires a number of subcontractors, Rogers said, adding that their work takes them across the state.

Along with Bob Rogers as president of the company, John Rogers is vice president, Mike Rogers is treasurer and David Rogers is secretary.

“We take a lot of pride in what we do,” Bob Rogers said. “When we get [the job] done, it’s as close to perfect as you’re going to get.”
