Opportunity overshadowed timing when Sam Carrasquillo decided to launch SC Roofing & Exteriors in 2008.

“We started our company at the beginning of a recession, and we have grown by leaps,” Carrasquillo said.

Revenue at the Sherwood contracting firm topped $1 million last year as the company has grown with the addition of a Hot Springs office in March 2011.

Plans call for continued expansion around the state.

“We hope to open another office, in Conway in 2014,” Carrasquillo said.

The company’s successful operations are founded on establishing well-trained crews to deliver quality work and provide dependable service with class and professionalism.

SC Roofing is an outgrowth of his residential real estate investing, which he started doing with his first rent-house purchase at the age of 17. The allure of entrepreneurial endeavors overpowered his parents’ dreams that he should become a pediatrician.

Doing work on his residential properties led to doing work for others, and Carrasquillo hasn’t looked back since.

The company moved into commercial roofing last year with two church jobs. It’s an area Carrasquillo would like to develop. “We really, really hope to grow that,” he said.

Carrasquillo embraces the additional regulation of his industry that now requires roofers to have a commercial contractor’s license. The change is designed to thwart fly-by-night operators, and he believes that his business will reap rewards from the new licensing requirement.

“That’s for the better,” Carrasquillo said. “All those guys who were doing wrong have another set of hoops to jump through, and I like that.”
