Stone Bank of Mountain View is nearing its 10th anniversary of transformation from a sleepy small-town lender into a vibrant financial institution.
Built on the 2009 acquisition of the $12 million-asset First National Bank of Altheimer, the community bank was relaunched with new investors and ownership and additional capital as Ozark Heritage Bank.
Back then, total assets stood at $24 million when operations consisted of two offices in Mountain View and White Hall supported by a staff of 21. After working through a rocky start, total assets have grown to about $372 million with an employee headcount of 81 these days.
Converted to a state bank charter and rebranded as Stone Bank in 2015 under the leadership of CEO Marnie Oldner, its footprint enlarged to include full-service locations in Little Rock and Harrison. Loan production offices in Fayetteville and Cave City were added in April 2018.
In May, Stone Bank opened its 6,600-SF Harrison banking center. Like the offices in Mountain View and White Hall, the 4-acre $6 million-plus Harrison development included a pavilion for company and community special events.
“The bank has grown hand over fist,” said Kirby Williams, executive vice president at Stone Bank. “The market has been good to us.”
The pavilions serve as hubs for civic and commercial interaction with gatherings such as Veterans Day ceremonies, summer movie nights and ice cream socials.
During 2017-18, the bank also expanded its west Little Rock operations to 18,000 SF to house its executive management offices, loan support, risk management, cybersecurity and information technology staff along with a café-style bank branch.
Business development officers and support staff in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee have helped Stone Bank spread its lending activity to 13 states. Feeding the loan growth is the bank’s expertise in government-guaranteed loan programs through the Small Business Administration, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Farm Service Agency.
“That’s a big part of our staff growth,” Williams said.
