Travel Nurse Across America

2016 // Category III (76-300 Employees)

North Little Rock

Travel Nurse Across America hasn’t slowed down since it won Category II in the Arkansas Business of the Year Awards in 2014.

The North Little Rock company has grown from about 55 corporate employees and almost 300 nurses on assignment in early 2014 to nearly 100 corporate employees and about 800 nurses on assignment, which makes it eligible to compete in the larger category this year.

Founded in 1999, the company places traveling nurses in hospitals in all 50 states for assignments that typically last about 13 weeks, said CEO and President Gene Scott.

Scott declined to release revenue figures, but he said revenue had nearly doubled between 2014 and 2015.

He said Travel Nurse is one of the top 10 travel nurse agencies in the country.

Scott expects Travel Nurse to continue to grow. The demand for nurses is expected to increase as baby boomers age and health care workers retire.

Growth for the company wasn’t always easy, though. When the Great Recession hit, a number of hospital administrators slashed their budgets for travel nurses, wiping out a number of travel nurse companies.

Scott and the other owners of the company invested in Travel Nurse during the recession. And the moves paid off. “What you’ve seen in the last two years is really a culmination of all of that [investment] starting to mature and come together at the same time,” Scott said.

Scott also credits the company’s success to its compensation and benefits programs, which “are the highest in the industry,” he said.

Travel Nurse has a culture that’s based on trust, integrity, professionalism and respect, Scott said. “We are about doing what is right for both our traveler and our facility.”
