The poverty rates by age and gender in the United States in 2014 showed no statistical difference compared with 2013, according to a report released last month by the U.S. Census Bureau.
In 2014, 13.5 percent of those 18 to 64 were in poverty compared with 10 percent of people 65 and older and 21.1 percent of children under 18. Children were 23.3 percent of the total population and 33.3 percent of those in poverty.
And last year, 13.4 percent of males and 16.1 percent of females were in poverty. “Gender differences in poverty rates were more pronounced for those aged 65 and older,” the report noted.
