The Little Rock-North Little Rock-Conway Metropolitan Statistical Area now has a population of about 750,000, according to a report by Metroplan, the planning agency for Faulkner, Lonoke, Pulaski and Saline counties. The area continues to grow, though the rate of that growth has slowed significantly, from an annual rate of 1.4% in 2000-2010 to 0.7% in 2010-2020.
The 2020 Census will likely find that Conway is now the MSA’s second-largest city, replacing North Little Rock, said the report, “Metro Trends: Demographic Review and Outlook,” released last month. The change in Conway’s status will mean a change in the MSA’s official name when the federal Office of Management & Budget reviews metropolitan areas in 2023, according to the report.
The fastest-growing area of the MSA is now Saline County, “which outgrew all others in the 2010–2020 decade although Faulkner County still has a slightly larger population total,” the report said.
