Cheers in Maumelle
Cheers in Maumelle has new owners.
That would be Wes Kirtley and his wife, Jamie, bought the Cheers on the north side of the river from Chris and Samantha Tanner, who continue to own the Cheers in the Heights.
Kirtley operated a small advertising business, which he sold several months ago. Kirtley, who had what he described as a little restaurant experience, wanted to deepen that expertise. “I wanted something local,” Kirtley said. “I wanted a single location. I really didn’t want — I really wasn’t looking for fast food, franchise-type. I wanted a nicer restaurant, kind of a casual fine dining, as I like to call it.”
He found it in Cheers in Maumelle, which he took over on Oct. 1.
Kirtley has done some remodeling, but his primary change has been the addition of a brick oven allowing him to offer, yes, brick oven pizzas.
Kirtley, who declined to say how much he paid for the Maumelle Cheers, said business has been “exceeding my expectations,” with January 2014 revenue up 8 percent over January 2013 and February receipts on track to show the same improvement.
