Citizens Bank of Batesville on Tuesday announced the hiring of Chris Wewers as its new CFO.
Wewers comes to Citizens Bank from Southern Bancorp Inc. of Arkadelphia, where he held the same role for more than nine years.
He replaces Karen Shaw, who is among several executives who recently resigned from Citizens Bank. Adam Mitchell stepped down as CEO of the $1.3 billion-lender in June and controller Michael Hoggard left last fall to become CFO of Generations Bank of Rogers.
Wewers has more than two decades of experience in the banking industry, with past roles including CEO of Harrison’s First Federal Bank/Little Rock’s Bear State Bank, CFO of Summit Bank of Arkadelphia, and president of Community Bank of North Arkansas.
“In his new role, Chris brings extensive expertise and insight that will be invaluable to the strategic initiatives of the bank,” Citizens Bank CEO Jeff Teague said in a news release. “We are confident that Chris, with more than two decades of executive experience in the industry, will make a great addition to our team.”
Wewers is an alumnus of the University of Arkansas and Henderson State University, where he serves as vice chairman of the Henderson State University Foundation board and chair of the university’s business advisory council. He’s also a member of Rotary International and the Pay It Forward Foundation.
“Chris’s vision and proven track record in financial leadership will be a tremendous asset to Citizens Bank,” said Vernon Scott, president of Citizens Bank. “We are thrilled to welcome Chris to our executive team and look forward to the positive impact he will make.”
