RopeSwing Starts Construction On Record, a Bentonville Event Space

2 min read

RopeSwing Hospitality Group’s construction of the Record — a 12,000-SF event space at 104 S.W. A St. in downtown Bentonville — starts this week.

A news release said the project is scheduled to open in October. But Kila Owens, a spokeswoman for the project, said RopeSwing plans to announce more details in June, including the budget, room accommodations, rental rates, how to rent space and design specifications. A rendering will also be released then, she said.

Two events are already scheduled for the space: the Made by Few Conference Oct. 26-29 and festivities associated with the 2016 International Biking Association World Summit Nov. 10-12.

“Bentonville’s rapid growth has created demand for flexible spaces that can be utilized for business meetings, private events and entertainment,” RopeSwing managing director Rob Apple said in the news release. “Record is part of our efforts to support high quality events and entertainment in our hometown, and we are looking forward to opening our doors in October.”

The project architect is Polk Stanley Wilcox Architects of Little Rock. The contractor is Flintco of Tulsa, which has an office in Springdale.

The space is in the former headquarters of the Benton County Daily Record. Real estate records show Northwest Arkansas Newspapers LLC of Little Rock sold the property to Record Properties LLC of Rogers for $700,000 in 2012.

RopeSwing of Bentonville bills itself as a “boutique hospitality company” whose team “is focused on redeveloping downtowns with iconic restaurants, entertainment venues, art houses, and private clubs.” The company provides management, design consulting and event production.

Tom Walton, son of Jim Walton, who is chairman and CEO of Arvest Bank Group Inc. and a board member of Wal-Mart Inc., is among several Waltons who are members of the investment group behind RopeSwing and serves as its managing principal. Tom Walton was recently named Tourism Person of the Year.

RopeSwing is involved in two new projects in downtown Bentonville: The Belfry, a restaurant and bar housed in a renovated church on the square, and the Pressroom, a restaurant that recently moved to the new Midtown Center.

Tom Walton is also involved in gathering support for a new visual and performing art space space for Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art inside the decommissioned, 63,000-SF Kraft Foods plant in Bentonville.
