Crystal Bridges Curator Mum on New Acquisitions

1 min read

Your Whispers staff asked Margi Conrads, director of curatorial affairs at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, what she could share with us in terms of future acquisitions.

She played her cards close to her vest, as anyone looking to acquire art should, but said the Bentonville museum would continue to build on its collection of women artists.

In addition, Conrads said, the museum is planning for next year a “fabulous folk art show,” “Treasures From the American Folk Art Museum.” The American Folk Art Museum,” in New York, showcases the works of self-taught artists.

There’s no word, meanwhile, on who bought Norman Rockwell’s “Saying Grace” in a December 2013 auction at Sotheby’s. That sold for $46 million, a record for an American painting. Top collectors of the illustrator’s art include Alice Walton as well as filmmakers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg.

The museum has drawn 1.9 million visitors since its opening on Nov. 11, 2011.
