Jon and Joanie Dyer are giving $1 million to the construction of Arkansas Children's Northwest of Springdale.
Joanie and Jon Dyer are giving $1 million to the construction of Arkansas Children’s Northwest, a gift inspired by the care their grandson received at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
In honor of the donation, the Emergency Department at Arkansas Children’s Northwest will bear the Dyer family name.
The couple’s three-year-old grandson Dyer Bailey was rushed to an area hospital emergency room when he was unable to move his neck. An Angel One helicopter flew him to ACH where neurosurgeons discovered two of his vertebrae were unaligned. The nurses and physicians at ACH were able to restore Dyer’s prognosis from life-threatening to a life of full mobility, according to a news release from ACH.
Located in Springdale across from Arvest Ballpark, the new hospital is expected to cost $427.7 million over the first five years, including construction, technology, equipment and operating expenses. The Dyer family contribution adds to $57 million in other donations the hospital has already announced.
Arkansas Children’s Northwest is set to open in January 2018. The campus will include 24 inpatient beds, an emergency department, five operating rooms, 20 exam rooms supporting more than 20 subspeciality areas, a general clinic, outdoor gardens, nature trails, interactive features designed for children and a helipad and refueling station supporting Angel One.
