Eric Munson Resigns as State Securities Commissioner

1 min read

Eric Munson has resigned as commissioner of the Arkansas Securities Department.

Department spokesperson Jeanni Brosius said Friday morning that Munson, who was appointed to the position in May 2020, stepped down to pursue other opportunities. His resignation took effect Monday.

“I want to thank Governor Hutchinson and you for providing me the opportunity to serve as Securities Commissioner,” Munson wrote to Secretary of Commerce Mike Preston in a letter of resignation.

Deputy Commissioner Campbell McLaurin will serve as interim commissioner until Munson’s replacement is appointed, Brosius said.

McLaurin was named deputy commissioner in August. He has worked for the agency since 2011, holding positions including associate general counsel and supervisor in its enforcement division.

Munson was an investment banker at Stephens Inc. before he joined the Securities Department. He worked as a financial advisor, underwriter and placement agent for Arkansas municipal bond issues. He also worked as a financial consultant and registered representative at Smith Barney, now JP Morgan, and served as senior vice president and director of legislation and regulation for the Arkansas Bankers Association.
