Erin Beatty Hired by UA’s General Counsel

1 min read

Erin L. Beatty has joined the University of Arkansas’ Office of the General Counsel on the Fayetteville campus, following a nationwide search.

She is one of five attorneys assigned to the campus, which has more than 27,000 students.

JoAnn Maxey, general counsel for the UA System, said in a news release that Beatty’s recent experience in student affairs made her stand out from many strong applicants.

Beatty has worked in both public and private practice and has experience in compliance-related work. She will be assuming advising responsibilities previously handled by Tamla Lewis, who is now serving as associate dean for the UA School of Law.

Beatty comes to the UA post from Office of the General Counsel at the University of Connecticut.

Before that, she worked for a firm in Rochester, New York, that focused on higher education and K-12 education law.

Beatty has also worked with the Federal Mine Safety & Health Review Commission in Washington, D.C., where her practice focused on workplace safety and health matters. She served as attorney-advisor to the chief administrative law judge for the commission.

Beatty has a bachelor’s degree from St. Michael’s College in Vermont and earned her law degree from the Syracuse University College of Law.

She can currently practice law in New York and Connecticut but will soon seek admission to the Arkansas Bar.
