Express Rx said Monday that it had acquired Cantrell Drug Co.’s retail pharmacy and compounding operations.
Express Rx said the deal will make it “one of the few pharmacies in the state” with the ability to provide “patient-specific medications” not commercially available.
The companies did not disclose financial terms of the deal, which closed Feb. 19.
“Express Rx has continually invested in new technologies and services to improve our customers’ experiences,” Galen Perkins, CEO and principal of Express Rx, said in a news release. “We are excited to be one of a handful of pharmacies in Arkansas to offer specialty compounding services.”
The deal doesn’t include Cantrell Drug Co.’s sterile compounding business on Cantrell Road and at its new location in the former Southwest Airlines facility at Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock.
There, Cantrell Drug plans to add 125 employees and make $7.5 million in improvements to the facility. It plans to begin operations at the airport in July.
In May 2013, four former USA Drug executives joined forces to open the first Express Rx. The independently owned company has since expanded to 45 employees and five locations in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. A sixth store opening is scheduled for April.
