If you were expecting the federal criminal trial of two Little Rock doctors to start later this month, you will have to wait a little longer.
The case of Drs. Robert Barrow and Angela Barrow has been pushed back to Nov. 2 in U.S. District Court in Little Rock.
The doctors were first indicted back in April by a federal grand jury on one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and six counts of health care fraud totaling more than $1.2 million. Robert Barrow also faced four counts related to billing Arkansas Blue Cross & Blue Shield for ultrasounds that allegedly weren’t performed.
But the grand jury wasn’t done with them. On Dec. 11, it returned a superseding indictment and increased the alleged fraudulent billing to nearly $1.4 million. The grand jury added seven charges of health care fraud involving five more patients.
The indictment alleged that between 2005 and 2012, the Barrows, through their medical clinic, Your Doctor’s Office in west Little Rock, submitted the false bills to Medicare and ABCBS.
The indictment alleged that the therapist who provided the service, Billy Marc Young, wasn’t a physical therapist. He has already pleaded guilty to making a false statement related to a health care matter. He agreed to pay $267,871 in restitution and forfeit $311,130.
Both doctors have pleaded not guilty.
