First Electric Cooperative Corporation Inc. of Jacksonville will dedicate a one-megawatt solar field at its Congo Operations Center, 8271 Congo Road in Benton, at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
The FECC board of directors will officially commission the five-acre solar field with 3,840 solar array panels into production then. The cooperative said, at peak times, the field could produce enough renewable energy to power 100 to 125 homes.
In the event of rain, the event will be held under the covered area behind the Congo Operations Center, next to the solar field.
First Electric serves more than 92,000 active accounts throughout 18 counties in central and southeast Arkansas. It has full-service offices in Jacksonville, Benton, Heber Springs, Perryville and Stuttgart.
