From the Program Director: Leadership Doesn’t Happen by Accident

2 min read

Leadership is cultivated through experience, challenges and connection.

Leadership Arkansas Provides All Three

Over nine months, participants engage with Arkansas’ most pressing issues and most promising opportunities, while forming lasting bonds with fellow Arkansans from diverse industries and communities.

The result? A stronger, more informed and better-connected network of leaders ready to shape our state’s future.

Leadership Arkansas is designed to develop emerging and established business, civic and community leaders who have the desire and potential to create a better Arkansas. To date, more than 1,000 individuals — representing business sectors, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, government entities and civic groups — have completed this program.

The Leadership Arkansas program delves into essential Arkansas issues, enhances leadership skills and offers a solid foundation for creating future opportunities. Participants gain valuable insight into the state’s history, economy and challenges, while examining regional issues through a statewide lens. They also connect meaningfully with peers and mentors from across Arkansas — relationships that often last well beyond graduation.

Leadership Arkansas graduates have gone on to:

  • serve on statewide boards and commissions;
  • chair local community boards and charitable projects;
  • invest in Arkansas’ local community;
  • serve as elected representatives on school boards, city councils, planning commissions and in the Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate.

When participants fully engage in the program, they grow their networks, enhance their leadership skills and deepen their understanding of Arkansas — its people, challenges and strengths. Even longtime residents often say the program reshaped their view of the state and inspired a new commitment to serve their communities.

We thank Central Moloney, ARcare, Nucor Steel Arkansas, Southwest Power Pool, Walmart, Electric Cooperatives of Arkansas, Entergy Arkansas, Farm Credit Services of Arkansas and Summit Utilities for their generosity and yearlong support of Leadership Arkansas Class XIX.

As we look ahead to Class XX, we invite you to join this transformative experience. If you’re ready to lead with insight, collaborate across communities and help shape a better Arkansas, this is your opportunity.
