Ted Herget, the owner of Gearhead Outfitters of Jonesboro.
Gearhead Outfitters of Jonesboro said Thursday that it had acquired Rock/Creek Outfitters of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Uncle Dan’s Outdoor Store, expanding its brick-and-mortar retail holdings across the country.
Gearhead, owned by founder Ted Herget, already operates 10 stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Missouri and Oklahoma. All three companies sell specialty outdoor clothing and equipment.
“We are passionate about brick-and-mortar retail, the outdoor industry, our communities and our mission,” Herget said in a news release. “The opportunity to acquire Rock/Creek and Uncle Dan’s has provided a unique opportunity for all three brands to align under those values as a family of outdoor specialty retailers. Our highest priority is to maintain the integrity of these companies, the brands we carry, and to expand the influence of the outdoor industry.”
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition includes Rock/Creek’s seven locations in Tennessee, along with six Uncle Dan’s locations — five in the Chicago area and one in Wisconsin. The companies’ e-commerce operations are also included.
“We are very excited to transition to the Gearhead family,” Olivia Beaty, e-commerce director for Uncle Dan’s, said. “This move will enable us to better serve our customers who get outside and do what they love. We’re looking forward to where this partnership will take us, and to be able to build something on the web as special as we have in brick-and-mortar.”
Uncle Dan’s, formerly a subsidiary of publicly traded Camping World of Lincolnshire, Illinois, purchased Rock/Creek in April 2018. Camping World purchased Uncle Dan’s in October 2017.
