Gary George, chair of poultry firm George’s Inc. of Springdale, along with his wife Robin and their family, have donated $1 million in support of Arkansas Children’s Hospital’s (ACH) expansion project, the pediatric care center in Little Rock announced Friday.
An eight-year, $318 million expansion is underway at ACH in Little Rock and Arkansas Children’s Northwest in Springdale.
In recognition of the gift, the chapel on the ACH campus in Little Rock will be named the Robin George Chapel.
The chapel at Arkansas Children’s Northwest (ACNW) in Springdale is also named after Robin George in recognition of gifts from the family. The Georges donated $1 million and 37.5 acres of land to help establish the hospital.
“Throughout the years, at times of concern for family or children of friends, the chapel at Arkansas Children’s Hospital has been a source of great comfort,” Robin George, a member of the Arkansas Children’s Foundation board of directors, said in a news release. “I met families from across the region who were also praying for children being served. I know firsthand how vital pastoral care is for families facing an uncertain diagnosis, and I know Arkansas Children’s gives families hope when they need it most.”
Robin and Gary George have been supporters of ACH for more than 40 years. Their son received life-saving emergency care, including heart surgery, at ACH, according to the release.
Gary George serves on the board of directors for Arkansas Children’s Inc., the health system that oversees the hospitals in Little Rock and Springdale. He was a founding member of the ACNW board of directors.
“We need every part of Arkansas Children’s to be the very best — the best in Little Rock, in Springdale, in Jonesboro and in Pine Bluff,” Gary George said. “It is an honor to support the mission of Arkansas Children’s. This gift to Arkansas Children’s Hospital reflects our deep gratitude and unwavering belief that every child should have access to the highest level of pediatric specialty care. Arkansas Children’s delivers that every day.”
