Harps Food Stores Inc. of Springdale announced a deal to acquire James Super Save Foods, an independent grocery store in Mena.
The store in Mena, owned by James Womble, is expected to close and reopen as Harps later this summer when the deal is finalized. Employment and operations at the store are expected to continue with minimal changes or interruptions, Harps said in a news release.
Privately held Harps did not disclose financial terms of the transaction.
“This acquisition reflects our commitment to expanding our footprint and providing excellent service in communities across the region,” Kim Eskew, chairman & CEO of Harps, said in the release.
Harps operates 149 stores across six states: Arkansas, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma. The company employs more than 6,500 people.
The deal for James Super Save Foods comes after Harps announced an agreement to acquire Doc’s Food Stores Inc., an independent grocery retailer with 10 locations across Oklahoma, in May.
