Hendrix College has announced a new program, Hendrix Arkansas Advantage, that it says will meet 100 percent of the financial need to attend the college, beginning with qualifying Arkansas high school seniors enrolling in fall 2015.
The program is open to Arkansas students who graduate with a 3.6 or higher GPA, and score 27 or higher on the ACT, or 1200 and above on the SAT. All forms of financial assistance — merit scholarships, need-based grants, federal and state grants, federal student loans and student employment — will be considered.
“We know that cost is a critical issue for students choosing a college, and many students and families assume that a private college is prohibitively expensive,” Hendrix President Bill Tsutsui said in a news release. “But when you consider the financial aid we offer and our four-year graduation rate, Hendrix is a very good investment for Arkansas students and families. And the Hendrix Arkansas Advantage is the best investment we can make in those students and in our state.”
According to the school’s website, total yearly costs to attend are $50,202. On average this year, Hendrix said it met 66 percent of the total costs, or $33,116.
The Project on Student Debt says 69 percent of seniors in 2013 graduated with student loan debt. In Arkansas, it was 55 percent. Hendrix College says 43 percent of its students graduate with student loan debt.
