A bronze statue of baseball legend Babe Ruth will be unveiled in Hot Springs on Feb. 6 at the entrance to the Majestic Park baseball complex, where Ruth played in the early years of the 20th century.
The sculpture will depict Ruth in his New York Yankees uniform just after he has swung the bat, watching as a home run sails over the outfield. It’s one of three bronze statues of Ruth in the world. One is in Japan and another is at Camden Yards in Baltimore, home of the Baltimore Orioles.
Ruth’s grandson, Tom Stevens, is scheduled to attend a ceremony dedicating the statue.
Pennsylvania sculptor Chad Fisher crafted the sculpture. It was funded by Hot Springs residents Dr. Robert Muldoon, real estate developer Lee Beasley, and the Hamby Family, which owns Sigma Supply of North America, in honor of the late Daniel B. Hamby Jr.
“Baseball fans from everywhere will come to see this monument to the most famous man who ever played the game,” Visit Hot Springs CEO Steve Arrison said. “It will outlast all of us and stand tall in front of Majestic Park for future generations to remind them of the history of the site and our community.”
