John Roberts III, president and CEO of J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell, saw another increase in annual compensation, although not as much as the year before.
Roberts’ total compensation was $5.54 million in 2016, an increase from the $5.38 he earned in 2015, according to a proxy statement the company filed with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.
His 2015 income had been more than $1 million more than his pay in 2014.
Roberts’ annual salary was $807,747, an increase from $796,132 in 2015. Roberts also received more than $4.6 million in stock and $96,000 in incentives.
Roberts’ stock amount was an increase of nearly $300,000 from the previous year but the incentive reward was a drop from the $225,000 he received in 2015.
For fiscal year 2016, J.B. Hunt reported revenue of $6.6 billion, an increase from $6.2 billion in 2015. Income for 2016 was $432 million, up from $427.2 million in 2015.
Other named executives and their compensation:
- David Mee, executive vice president and CFO, earned $2.46 million that included salary of $480,660, stock awards of $1.9 million and $57,000 in incentives. In 2015, Mee’s salary was $476,846 and his total compensation was $2.44 million.
- Shelley Simpson, chief marketing officer and the president of Integrated Capacity Solutions and Truckload divisions, earned slightly more than $2.2 million, which included salary of $476,923, stock awards of $1.67 million and $57,000 in incentives. Simpson’s salary in 2015 was $429,808 and her total compensation was slightly more than $2 million.
- Nicholas Hobbs, president of Dedicated Contract Services, earned nearly $2.2 million in total compensation, including salary of $454,808, stock awards of $1.67 million and $54,000 in incentives. In 2015, Hobbs’ salary was $403,846 and his total compensation was just less than $2 million.
- Terrence Matthews, executive vice president and president of the Intermodal Division, earned $1.3 million in 2016, which included salary of $478,819, stock awards of $759,690 and $57,000 in incentives. Matthews’ salary in 2015 was $478,946 and his total compensation was $1.7 million.
Chairman of the Board Kirk Thompson was paid $356,050 in 2016, of which $350,000 was salary. His 2015 salary was $448,077.
The company announced its annual shareholders meeting will be 10 a.m. April 20 at corporate headquarters in Lowell.
The agenda includes the re-election of its 10-member board of directors, reappointing Ernst & Young LLP as outside auditors and a shareholder’s proposal submitted by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for the company to report political contributions, a proposal opposed by J.B. Hunt’s board of directors.
