John Roberts III, CEO of J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc.
Executives of J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell saw huge year-over-year increases in their compensation packages in 2018, due to change in the timing of annual stock awards.
According to the company’s latest proxy statement filed with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, its compensation committee in 2017 moved the timing of annual stock awards to January 2018, so none were granted that year.
In 2018, total compensation for President and CEO John Roberts III was $6.8 million, up from $859,252 the year before. That package includes his annual salary, $845,298, an increase from $833,865 in 2017.
In addition, Roberts’ stock amount for 2018 was $4.9 million, and he received a $1.1 million bonus.
For fiscal year 2018, J.B. Hunt reported revenue of $8.6 billion, an increase from $7.2 billion in 2017. Income for 2018 was $490 million, down from $686 million.
Other named executives and their compensation:
- David Mee, executive vice president and CFO, earned $2.8 million that included a salary of $498,618, $1.7 million in stock awards, a $490,805 bonus and $18,720 in other compensation. In 2017, Mee’s salary was $488,154, and his total compensation was $507,143.
- Shelley Simpson, executive vice president, chief commercial officer and president of Highway Services, earned $2.8 million, which included a salary of $496,600, $1.7 million in stock awards, a $490,805 bonus and $20,483 in other compensation. Simpson’s salary in 2017 was $485,000, and her total compensation was $504,973.
- Nicholas Hobbs, executive vice president and president of Dedicated Contract Services, earned $2.7 million in total compensation, including a salary of $485,505, $1.7 million in stock awards, a $487,730 bonus and $18,430 in other compensation. In 2017, Hobbs’ salary was $475,000, and his total compensation was $493,788.
- Terrence Matthews, executive vice president and president of the Intermodal Division, earned $2.8 million in 2018, which included a salary of $500,630, $1.7 in stock awards, a $490,805 bonus and $19,872 in other compensation. Matthews’ salary in 2017 was $490,202, and his total compensation was $509,960.
Chairman of the Board Kirk Thompson was paid $376,039 in 2018, of which $363,269 was salary. His 2017 salary was $350,000.
The company announced its annual shareholders meeting will be 10 a.m. April 18 at its corporate headquarters in Lowell.
The agenda includes:
- The re-election of its 10-member board of directors;
- Reappointing Ernst & Young LLP as outside auditors; and
- A shareholder’s proposal submitted by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters for the company to report political contributions.
