The Winthrop Rockefeller Institute has hired Joel Smith as its new general manager for conference services.
Smith will oversee the Institute’s conference services staff including meeting planners, guest representatives and housekeeping, and oversee its conference dining operations as well as the on-site restaurant, the River Rock Grill.
He also will serve on the WRI senior leadership team, which provides strategic advisement to WRI executive director Marta Loyd.
Smith previously worked as lodge manager of Mather Lodge at Petit Jean State Park. Before joining Mather Lodge in February 2014, Smith worked in various hospitality management positions in central Arkansas, Indiana, Tennessee and North Carolina including a stint as general manager of the Comfort Inn & Suites in Little Rock.
Located on Petit Jean Mountain, WRI is a part of the University of Arkansas system.
