Johnelle Hunt, co-founder of J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell, is the headline speaker for the Arkansas Trucking Association’s annual business conference and vendor showcase in Rogers.
The event takes place Wednesday and Thursday, with a golf tournament on Friday. The educational forums will be held at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center; the golf tournament will take place at the Shadow Valley Country Club.
Hunt, a member of both the Arkansas Business Hall of Fame and the Arkansas Women’s Hall of Fame, is scheduled to speak at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Hunt will share her experiences in the trucking industry. In 1969, she and her late husband, J.B., co-founded J.B. Hunt Transport with five trucks and seven trailers.
“Trucking has such a long and rich history in the state of Arkansas because of entrepreneurs like Johnelle — men and women with incredible work ethic and business sense moving the economy forward,” Shannon Newton, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association, said in a news release.
The association will make its 85th anniversary during the conference. American Trucking Associations President Chris Spear will report on the state of the trucking industry, and Rebecca Brewster of the American Transportation Research Institute will share the latest research on truck drivers’ struggle with finding safe parking in her presentation, “No Vacancy: Truck Parking Challenges & Solutions.”
Another segment, led by Michael Cammisa, vice president of safety policy and connectivity at the American Trucking Associations, will discuss policy that could shape the future of autonomous trucks.
