Jonesboro Building $1.2M Roundabout

1 min read

The city of Jonesboro is moving forward with a $1.2 million roundabout project in the northwestern part of the city.

The bid for the project was opened last week, and it appeared Seagraves Construction Inc. of Maynard was the low bidder with a $1.2 million bid, according to Arkansas State Highway & Transportation Department spokesman Danny Straessle.

He said the bid could be approved early this week, if not sooner. Construction is expected to begin in four to six weeks.

The job calls for changing the four-way stop sign at Aggie and Airport roads into a roundabout, where drivers move around a center island, said Craig Light, the engineer for the city of Jonesboro.

The intersection has an elementary and junior high school near it, Light said. “There’s a little more than 5,000 vehicles a day on each leg of the intersection,” he said. “The stop sign intersection is not very efficient. It really creates a lot of delays and backups, especially during the peaks.”
