Judgment Increased in Hillcrest Home Case

1 min read

The judgments are piling up for the seller of a $1.25 million Hillcrest home.

Kathleen “Kathy” Blasingame of Maumelle was ordered last month to pay $173,874 in court costs and attorneys’ fees in the case she lost to Dr. Joel Dworkin, who had bought the Hillcrest home.

If you recall, in 2013, Dworkin sued Blasingame, whose late husband, Ron, was a founder of Whole Hog Café of Little Rock. Dworkin alleged she committed fraud by not revealing condition problems with the house.

He wanted to rescind the real estate contract with Blasingame and asked for other unspecified damages. If the contract couldn’t be rescinded, Dworkin wanted money to repair the property and an unspecified amount for other damages.

Blasingame had denied any wrongdoing. But last month Pulaski County Circuit Court Judge W. Michael Reif ruled in favor of Dworkin, but didn’t rescind the contract.

Instead, Reif awarded Dworkin $102,200 in damages, which now when including the attorneys’ fees and costs, brings the total judgment to $276,074.

Dworkin’s attorneys are Kendel Grooms and Donald Campbell III, both of Little Rock.

Neither side is really happy.

Reif recently denied Dworkin’s request for a new trial and Blasingame’s motion for reconsideration.
