Manhattan Road & Bridge Awarded $87.3M I-630 Widening Project

1 min read

Manhattan Road & Bridge, a road construction firm with offices in Little Rock and northwest Arkansas, has been awarded an $87.3 million Arkansas Department of Transportation widening project.

The work will begin in late May or early June and take place on a stretch of Interstate 630 from near the Baptist Health Medical Center exit east to South University Avenue.

The freeway in that area will be widened from six to eight lanes. The project also includes new sound barriers to reduce construction noise for residents in neighborhoods north of the interstate.

Work should be completed by early 2020.

In addition, the firm will replace the overpass on South Hughes Street, which the company said could be done in 96 days, and bridges over South Rodney Parham Road and Rock Creek.

“We still have a few details to work on, but we could not be happier to have been selected to partner with the Arkansas Department of Transportation for this important project,” Mark Windle, vice president of Arkansas operations for Manhattan Road & Bridge, said in a news release. “Arkansas is our home and we have more than 100 employees here. We look forward to getting to work on making travel easier for the more than 100,000 motorists that use I-630 every day.”

The firm has a history of building highways and bridges in Arkansas. Current projects include joint venture work on the Big Rock interchange in Little Rock, the new Cabot interchange on Highway 67 and bridge replacements in Siloam Springs.
