Marlon Blackwell is finishing up his design on a unique project: the U.S. Embassy in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic. Blackwell, the principal at Marlon Blackwell Architects, has been working on the project for a couple of years.

Blackwell has earned numerous awards for his designs, including the 2020 Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects. He was elected to the American Academy of Arts & Letters in 2021.

Blackwell told Whispers he wasn’t permitted to share images of his design of the embassy. He said he and his team are just about finished with the design and technical drawings.

“It’s certainly an interesting and compelling project,” Blackwell said in an email. “It has also been an intriguing process.”
