The Metroplan Board of Directors has awarded more than $7.8 million to 17 projects throughout central Arkansas.
Of that, about $6.3 million was awarded through the Surface Transportation Program, which provides flexible funding that may be used to preserve and improve the conditions and performance on any federal-aid highway, bridge and tunnel projects on any public road, for pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, and for transit capital projects.
The STP projects were:

Southeast Trail in Pulaski County/Little Rock ($700,000);

Bowman Road in Little Rock ($2 million);

Markham Street Phase 2 in Conway ($1.5 million);

Highway 319/367 Intersection in Ward ($525,000);

Bryant Parkway in Bryant ($1.5 million); and

Signal System Upgrade in Cabot ($100,000)
The remaining $1.55 million was awarded through the Transportation Alternatives Program, which funds the construction of sidewalks and trails for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized forms of transportation, the creation of systems that will provide safe routes for non-drivers (children, older adults and individuals with disabilities), and other similar activities.
