Ray Lunsford
Ray Lunsford, a 23-year veteran of the gaming industry, has joined the Oaklawn Team as assistant gaming manager.
In the position, Lunsford will also be a key manager in the “My Room” program launched in July to help ensure positive guest experiences while also providing support during Oaklawn’s busiest times.
Lunsford started his career as a dealer at the Splash Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. He made the move to the Horseshoe Casino when it opened in 1995 and worked his way up the ranks there for 21 years. He started as a dealer and ended his tenure as casino manager.
A boxer, Lunsford fought in the heavyweight division for 32 bouts starting in 1993. He won 19 of those fights and among his opponents were champions Brian Minto and Tye Fields.
“I’m excited to come home to be part of a winning team,” Lunsford said in a news release. “I had a lot of co-workers asking to come with me because of the great reputation Oaklawn has.”
“(Ray) brings considerable experience to our gaming management team, and he likes to be visible on the floor. It won’t be long before our customers know him well,” Director of Gaming and Wagering Bobby Geiger said.
