Randy Ort is back as the external spokesman for the Arkansas Department of Transportation but only, he hopes, for a short while.
Ort is handling the department’s public affairs on an interim basis after Danny Straessle was moved to internal communications with the government relations office, Ort said. Ort was the department’s longtime public information officer until Straessle replaced him in 2015 when Ort was named assistant chief for administration.
Ort said he will handle the media until a full-time replacement is hired. The advertisement for the position should go out soon and will be posted for the legally required two weeks.
In the meantime, Ort said, “I’m praying for a warm winter,” Ort said. “I’ve done my time out at 5 in the morning.”
