Oxford American Awarded $25K Art Works Grant

1 min read

The Oxford American of Little Rock announced Tuesday that it has been awarded a $25,000 National Endowment for the Arts “Art Works” grant.

The magazine said it will use the money to publish fiction, nonfiction and poetry by established and emerging authors next year.

More than $30 million in grants comprise the NEA’s first major funding announcement for fiscal year 2017. The NEA said the Art Works grants recognize the creation of art that meets the highest standards of excellence, public engagement with diverse and excellent art, lifelong learning in the arts and the strengthening of communities through the arts.

The magazine’s executive director, Ryan Harris, said in the release, “Art Works excels at providing democratized support opportunities for organizations like the Oxford American to continue their work. We are humbled to be amongst a select group of grant recipients.”

NEA Chairman Jane Chu said in the release that the organization is focused on engaging people in the arts because “whether in a theater, a town square, a museum or a hospital, the arts are everywhere and make our lives richer.”
