Oxford American magazine announced the release of its 16th Southern Music Issue. This year the annual edition focused on music from Texas and includes a 25-song compilation with tracks by Willie Nelson, Buddy Holly and Lee Ann Womack.
The cover of the issue features a 1975 portrait of Texas native Guy Clark with his late wife, Susanna.
You might remember that the magazine turned to the crowdfunding website Kickstarter to raise money for the issue after the Economic Development & Tourism Division of the Texas Governor’s Office declined to pitch in. Other states featured by OA, including Arkansas, provided some funding for past compilation CDs.
The magazine reported raising $53,757 from 1,008 donors.
The Southern Music Issue will be available on newsstands beginning Dec. 1.
