Pulaski Tech Gets $1.8M for Advanced Manufacturing Program

1 min read

The University of Arkansas-Pulaski Technical College has received a $1.8 million state grant to help modernize its advanced manufacturing program.

In a news release, the college in North Little Rock said the funds from the Arkansas Department of Commerce Office of Skills Development will be used to upgrade training facilities to prepare students to enter the manufacturing workforce.

“There is an urgent need for equipment and expansion of the advanced manufacturing program,” Angela Kremers, dean of technical and professional studies, said in a statement. “Industry partners are very pleased with the quality of the education and training students are receiving and this grant will assist tremendously to meet these needs.

“Due to expanded apprenticeship training and need, the infrastructure to properly train students on equipment that is relevant to industry specific to our region is key.”

A 2022 review of the college’s advanced manufacturing program included recommendations to upgrade the instructional facility and to work closely with employer partners for implementation of upgrades.

Since then, Pulaski Tech has moved to combine its machining and computer numerical control (CNC) labs; hosted advisory committee meetings with feedback that has contributed to changes in software, equipment and curriculum; and completed exterior upgrades to the facility, including new paint and signage.
