The nation’s unemployment rate increased to 6 percent in April, according to a report Friday from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The reported noted that many of the jobs losses occurred in manufacturing, airlines and department stories.
April’s rate increased two-tenths of a percentage point from March. Unemployment figures for Arkansas are scheduled to be released Friday afternoon by the Arkansas Employment Security Department.
The nation’s unemployment rate has remained at or near 6 percent for more than a year. The last time it was greater than 6 percent was in July 1994, when the rate was 6.1 percent.
