Rock Town Distillery Ranked High in ‘Whisky Bible’

1 min read

Little Rock’s Rock Town Distillery has been recognized for producing the “2015 US Micro Whisky of the Year” for its Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey.

Jim Murray, the author of the “Whisky Bible,” a well-known tome for imbibers, gave the whiskey a 96.5 score and included it in his 2015 edition of the book. Murray’s review called it “[u]nquestionably one of the great micro distillery bourbons of all time.”

Phil Brandon, the founder and head distiller at Rock Town, said the award has led to high demand for the whiskey, which takes about 14 months to prepare.

He said he has had to pare down orders from other states — including a request for 100 cases in New Jersey — so he could keep some for the tasting room at 1216 E. Sixth St. (The distillery is also prepared with a case of Whisky Bibles for sale.)

Brandon said the single-barrel offering, like the distillery’s other products, comes from grains grown in northeast Arkansas and prepared in Little Rock. “It’s from grain to glass an Arkansas whiskey,” Brandon said.
