Shelley Simpson
There was an intersection between supply chain management and sports June 25.
The Plug & Play Tech Center hosted a webinar, and participants included Shelley Simpson, chief commercial officer and Highway Services president at J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell, and Matt Waller, dean of the University of Arkansas’ Walton College of Business in Fayetteville. The university’s undergraduate supply chain management program was recently ranked the No. 1 program in the country by Gartner.
At the beginning of the webinar, Simpson congratulated Waller on the program’s accomplishment. The program ranked 15th two years ago.
“Dean Waller, you have given me hope for our Arkansas Razorbacks that we can go from not ranked to 15th to No. 1. Thank you for that,” Simpson said.
It was a not-so-subtle reference to the university’s football team, which has won just eight games in the past three seasons. Simpson wasn’t being snarky since she has a vested interest in the Razorbacks’ success: Her son, Payton, recently committed as a preferred walk-on offensive lineman for the team.
