Shults & Adams Sues New York Lease Auditors for Unpaid BillsLock Icon

A Little Rock law firm is suing its former client for unpaid legal bills.

The amount that Shults & Adams LLP said it’s owed by Commercial Tenant Services Inc. of New York?

$416,441, according to the law firm’s suit filed earlier this month in U.S. District Court in Little Rock by Little Rock attorney Tim Dudley.

Shults & Adams, a small law firm that includes attorneys Steven Shults and John T. Adams, signed a contract with CTS in February 2017 and represented it in a lawsuit in New York. For nearly nearly two years the law firm dedicated most of its billable time to representing CTS in that case.

The law firm sent monthly statements to CTS, which on its website touts that it helps commercial tenants recover rent expense overpayments and helps prevent overcharges.

But sometime in 2017, CTS fell behind on the fees and expenses owed to the law firm, the lawsuit said.

At the end of January, Shults & Adams, after notifying CTS, formally stopped representing it.

CTS still has refused to pay the outstanding bill, which “has caused substantial harm to Shults & Adams in Arkansas,” the lawsuit said.

The firm is suing for breach of contract. As of Thursday afternoon, CTS had not filed a response in the case.

It also didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
