Simmons Bank of Pine Bluff announced that it plans to donate about $1.5 million to support a public development in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
The project, known as Block 34, is designed to revitalize a vacant city block into an “inclusive and sustainable public space that reflects the cultural heart and soul of the community,” the bank said in a news release. Plans call for an event space with a large central lawn, an event pavilion, an outdoor amphitheater and a plaza with landscaping, water feature, public art, space for food trucks and other vendors, and public restrooms.
Simmons said it’s in “advanced negotiations” with city officials to donate the money.
“As a company that prides itself on being a community bank, we recognize that the Block 34 project provides an opportunity for continued economic development and transformation in downtown Stillwater, while serving as a gathering spot for the community to enjoy social, cultural and educational events,” Kevin Fowler, regional community president for Simmons, said in a news release.
Simmons entered the Stillwater market in 2017 through its acquisition of Bank SNB. Simmons has four branches in the city, according to the bank’s website.
