Sissy Jones of Sissy's Log Cabin.
Readers of ArkansasBusiness.com know that the legendary Sissy Jones, founder of Sissy’s Log Cabin, was recently honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Women’s Jewelry Association.
What they may not know is that Jones is fighting cancer, a battle that meant she couldn’t attend the July 25 Awards for Excellence gala in New York.
Friends — and they’re legion — have known about her illness for a while, but in sharing the news of Jones’ award, Liz Hamilton of the advertising firm Stone Ward noted that Bill Jones, Sissy’s son, would be accepting the award on her behalf as Jones “continues her fight with cancer.”
Sissy Jones’ Facebook page also contains news of her health, along with best wishes and prayers for her recovery, which are as numerous as her friends.
Your Whispers staff got to know Sissy (that’s how everybody knows her) when Arkansas Business profiled her five years ago. We can’t think of a better description of her prodigious selling ability than the one we published then: “She could sell eggs to the chicken that laid them.”
But the thing we remember most about Sissy is her story about her 19-year marriage to Murphy Jones, their divorce and then their remarriage 13 years later, in 1988: “We both had to grow up a little,” Sissy said, adding, “If you can’t forgive, you can’t be forgiven. And that’s something I had to learn.”
