Today’s Power, Bearden School District Flip Switch on Solar Arrays

1 min read

Executives of Today’s Power Inc. of North Little Rock and the Bearden School District held a “flip the switch” event for its two campus-based solar arrays Tuesday ahead of the school board meeting.

The previously announced 1,140-panel system that can produce more than 720,000 kilowatt-hours annually is now officially commissioned and operational. It is expected to save the district $25,000 a year.

Superintendent Denny Rozenberg said in a news release that cost savings for the district over the 20-year contract will be approximately $500,000. That contract is between the district, Today’s Power and South Central Service Cooperative.

“Partnering with the Bearden School District is truly an honor; 90% of the energy usage of the district will be offset at a reduced rate by solar power. Such savings will be reinvested in the community and will be able to go back to the students and education directly,” Today’s Power President Michael Henderson said in the release. “This project exemplifies the capacity of Bearden School to reinvest in the community. Projects like this mean that you are not paying for electricity that is being generated in a neighboring county or state. However, this does not come without vision, but this school board has shown its progressivity and brought this project online.”
