Teamwork is important in almost any workplace, but at Total Quality Logistics it is put on an even higher pedestal.
According to Colleen Berliner, communications specialist at the company, the value of teamwork is one of TQL’s “winning principles.”
“We are a team first and foremost. If someone needs a little extra help getting a new customer set up, someone is there to help,” Berliner said. “If someone sets a personal record or has something good happening, we’re all there to celebrate.”
The teamwork-conducive environment creates a company culture that Berliner calls “unbeatable.”
“We truly are a team, and aside from lifting each other up and celebrating success together, we also honor the experience and wisdom each of us brings to the table,” she said. “You never know where the next good idea or sales technique is going to come from.”
“Employees that are valued and appreciated are also more productive — obviously we benefit from that.” — Colleen Berliner, communications specialist
TQL is a sales organization in the transportation industry.
The company arranges truckload delivery pickups for business-to-business freight across North America.
“Using our industry expertise — along with cutting-edge, proprietary technology — we negotiate truck loads, rates and destinations between companies needing products hauled and truck carriers delivering goods,” Berliner said. “We arranged the movement of more than 1 million loads of freight last year.”
But before new brokers are ready to fully be a part of the TQL team, they go through five months of training in logistics and sales techniques. Following those five months, new employees shadow seasoned brokers and spend one-on-one time learning from them.
The company also offers management training for employees who want to move up the ladder.
“Third-party logistics is a fast-paced, 24/7 industry, and we want our employees to come with their ‘A’ game every day, and for that to happen, we have to make sure we are giving them the environment that keeps them motivated,” Berliner said.

In addition to the training opportunities the company offers, it also provides catered meals and team activities as a way to say “thank you” to employees. One of the office favorites is for the employees to go bowling together.
“It means a lot to employees that they know you’re grateful for their hard work, and gratitude is key to our success,” Berliner said.
TQL knows that its efforts pay off because new employees often come to the company because of referrals from friends who work there.
