Google Revealed as Exclusive Offtaker for $123M Grant County Solar Project

2 min read

Treaty Oak Clean Energy LLC of Austin, Texas, on Wednesday revealed that Google is the big tech company supporting one of Arkansas’ largest solar developments.

Google has agreed to become the exclusive buyer of power from Treaty Oak’s $123 million Redfield Solar Project on 1,033 acres in Grant County, Treaty Oak said in a news release. Construction on the array began early this year. Operations are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.

The 15-year deal will supply Google with 100 megawatts of power, or enough to power about 18,000 homes. Through an interconnection with Entergy Arkansas, the array near Sheridan will support data centers across the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) region.

MISO is a nonprofit grid operator with headquarters in Little Rock. The company has a footprint in all or parts of 15 U.S. states and the Canadian province of Manitoba.

“Strengthening the grid by deploying more reliable and clean energy is crucial for supporting the digital infrastructure that businesses and individuals depend on,” Will Conkling, director of clean energy and power at Google, said in the release. “This collaboration with Treaty Oak Clean Energy will ensure a steady supply of reliable, affordable, and clean energy for our data centers, resulting in a stronger grid and healthier future for Arkansas.”

The solar array is expected to deliver $9 million in local and state tax revenue over its 40-year lifespan.

Google is also partnering with Entergy Arkansas on a 600-megawatt solar field with 350 megawatts of battery storage in Jefferson County. That array will power the tech giant’s multibillion-dollar data center in West Memphis. The project will have five “large-scale data center buildings,” offices and parking on 920 acres of a 1,178-acre plot.

In Little Rock, plans for a $1 billion, 300,000-SF data center are edging forward. A data center of similar size, scale and cost is planned for Conway.

The company or companies behind those projects has not been disclosed.
